July 10-12: Schenkenzell, Germany
Sites: After sorting out our sleeping arrangements, we trained to nearby Schiltach’s Marktplatz, a beautiful, traditional Bavarian marketplace/town square. We enjoyed an outdoor meal and Lance put on a happy face for all of my picture taking. We also rode bikes in the forest and through a nearby town, where we enjoyed yummy snacks and ice cream. For the most part of our stay here I wanted to leave here. I couldn’t shake the scary feelings, and yet I hope to return (to Germany) some day.
Lodging: In Germany we stayed at the lovely Hotel Waldblick after our eventful attempt at staying at Hotel Sonne. Luckily Lance wrote that story down right after it happened so we can still relive the horror! Hotel Waldblick was expensive though I don’t remember the exact amount. I think it was somewhere in the $160s per night. It was a well cared for room, albeit somewhat basic, and the furniture, linens, etc were high quality. I remember the shower was amazing (and we later learned there was a well-known faucet-making factory/museum nearby) and that the cleaning staff left us little bags of gummy bears on our pillows each night.
