Barcelona: Enjoying the Journey

At the airport in Barcelona. Spain has been a whirlwind. From jetlag to travel shock, it’s been a crazy, enjoyable, stressful last couple of days. We’d forgotten how much effort it takes to live a day in a foreign city, let alone plan for several weeks in multiple countries. Planning beforehand we did, booking ahead we did not. Pros and cons:

Pros:
Flexibility
Spontaneity

Cons:
It’s peak travel season. Everything is booked.

That may have been an exaggeration. Once we spent a couple of hours researching, we were able to book our accommodation for the next several cities. Nonetheless, there’s nothing like sitting on a (stiff) bed in a (damp) apartment room wondering where you’ll spend your next night. We were up until 3 a.m. planning on Sunday. Sight seeing in the rain on Monday. Tuesday, a down day, I slept until 11:30 (Lance until 1:30!) Due to our early flight — and inability to fall asleep because of our late rising — we’re going on only an hour’s sleep right now.

So unfortunately, I think Espanya has taken the grunt of our travel woes. But with a few days under our belt, our feet are wet and we’re ready for our next adventure. Things are going from good to great, I can feel it. We’re off to Switzerland.
